Lyonia Environmental Center to host Scrub Jay Festival Feb. 20

The Lyonia Environmental Center (LEC) will host a Florida Scrub Jay Festival from 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20. Events schedule listed below.

The family event will celebrate the Florida scrub jay, the only bird unique to Florida. Visitors will learn about the bird, which is a threatened species, and the scrub habitat where it makes its home.

The festival will offer live music in the Deltona Amphitheater, guided nature walks in Lyonia Preserve, presentations and activities for children in the LEC, and environmental displays in the Deltona Regional Library auditorium.

Admission to the festival, the environmental center and Lyonia Preserve will be free.

The festival is supported by the LEC and the education committee of the Northeast Florida Scrub Working Group. The education committee was formed to create educational opportunities, promote conservation, and increase awareness of scrub habitat and the Florida scrub jay.

The LEC is part of the Deltona Regional Library complex at 2150 Eustace Ave. It is open from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays; from 9 a.m. - 7:30 p.m. Thursdays; from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays; and from 1 - 5 p.m. Sundays.
